For the first time a gregarious parasitoid belonging to the genus Phaenocarpa Foerster, 1862 (Braconidae: Alysiinae) is reported, and described as P. helophilae spec. nov. from England. The first record of Chloropidae as host for a Phaenocarpa species is given; P. livida (Haliday, 1838) reared from Calamoncosis (Rhaphiopyga) glyceriae Nartshuk, 1958. Sathra debilis Foerster, 1862, is synonymised with P. livida (Haliday). Additionally, Phaenocarpa curticauda spec. nov. from The Netherlands is described and fully illustrated. A lectotype is designated for Alysia pectoralis Zetterstedt, 1838, and Phaenocarpa rufoflava Papp, 1968, is recognised as a valid species. |

Abstract Polyphagotarsonemus latus is one a major pest of Valencia orange in Colombia. To study its biology, it was established an experiment on young leaves of the Valencia orange at 25 ± 5°C, 70 ± 5% RH, and 12:12 L:D photoperiod. To characterize the nature of damage caused by this mite on leaves and young fruits, a trial in screenhouse conditions using young leaf and small fruits (0.1 - 0.3 cm in diameter) and fruits between 1.0-3.0 cm in diameter, which were infested with 5, 15 and 30 adult females of P. latus, was established. The total duration of life cycle was 3.2 days; the female had an oviposition period of 7.4 days and longevity 9.6 days. Life table parameters were as follows: net reproductive rate (R o ) = 93.3, intrinsic rate of natural... |

Here we evaluate the effects of different concentrations of the antibiotic ampicillin on the growth and development of Chrysomya putoria. Third-generation, first instar larvae (L1) reared on 60 grams of homogenate+agar 65% were treated with ampicillin sodium. The experiment consisted of four replicates (40 larvae/replicate) of each antibiotic concentration tested (T1: 466µg/mL ; T2: 81.33 mg/mL and T3: 166.66mg/mL) and a T4: control. The body mass of the mature larvae, after they abandoned the diet, were recorded in batches of five. The variation between the mean body mass of larvae and the duration of larval and pupal stages, and overall duration of the development, viability and normal rates were analyzed by ANOVA. There were no significant differences... |

The results of the identification of a small collection of Opiinae reared from Agromyzidae from Argentina are reported; six new species and one new genus (Lorenzopius gen. nov.; type species: Lorenzopius calycomyzae spec. nov.) are described. A checklist to the species of Opiinae known from Argentina is added. The following new combinations are proposed: Doryctobracon turicai (Turica & Mallo, 1961), Lorenzopius sanlorenzensis (Fischer, 1964), L. tubulatus (Fischer, 1979), Phaedrotoma agromyzophaga (Blanchard, 1940), P. alternantherae (Fischer, 1966), P. atomica (Fischer, 1962), P. brethesi (De Santis, 1967), P. curtinotum (Fischer, 1983) P. ebriops (Fischer, 1978), P. eunomia (Fischer, 1968), P. euterpe (Fischer, 1968), P. fissilis (Fischer, 1969) P.... |

The development and reproduction of the citrus leafminer (CLM), Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton, were evaluated in six citrus genotypes in order to identify genotypes with resistance traits that could be applied in a program for the development of citrus varieties resistant to the citrus leafminer. Tests were conducted under controlled laboratory conditions (25 ± 1ºC, 70 ± 10% RH, and 14h photophase). Seedlings of each genotype tested were infested with eggs obtained from a stock colony of CLM maintained on 'Cravo' lemon (Citrus limonia L. Osbeck), and the duration and survival of the eggs, larval and pupal stages, pupal size and weight, fecundity and longevity of adults, and sex ratio were evaluated. No influence was observed on the duration and survival... |

Palinurus elephas and Palinurus mauritanicus are the only species of the family Palinuridae that occur in the Northeast Atlantic and Mediterranean. Of the two, Palinurus elephas is the most abundant and accessible and has traditionally been the preferred target of lobster fisheries throughout its range. Palinurus mauritanicus has a deeper distribution and has been an important target of fisheries mainly in the Central Eastern Atlantic. The high unit value and the relative scarcity of these species have been important obstacles to research and knowledge of their biology, ecology and fisheries is limited. Nevertheless, over time a considerable number of studies has been conducted, though most of these are contained in university theses or in publications of... |

The subgenus Trifurcula (Levarchama) is reviewed. It comprises seven species, two of which are described as new: Trifurcula (Levarchama) peloponnesica VAN NIEUKERKEN sp. n., found in Greece: Peloponnesus and feeding on Anthyllis hermanniae, and Trifurcula (Levarchama) manygoza VAN NIEUKERKEN, A. LAŠTŮVKA et Z. LAŠTŮVKA sp. n., from Croatia and northern Greece, feeding on Lotus corniculatus. The subgenus occurs throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, and all species make leafmines on Fabaceae: Loteae. All species are diagnosed and biology and distribution are discussed, including new hostplant and distributional records. The phylogeny is discussed on the basis of morphological characters and hostplant relationships are discussed. The Macaronesian T.... |

The genus Histeromerus Wesmael, 1838 (Braconidae: Histeromerinae) is revised and its species are keyed. The type species is redescribed and fully illustrated. The genus Mithotynia Hedqvist, 1976, is a new junior synonym of Histeromerus, and its type species, M. aptera Hedqvist, 1976, a junior synonym of H. mystacinus Wesmael, 1838. Histeromerus canadensis Ashmead, 1891, is for the first time reported from the Palaearctic region. A lectotype is designated for H. mystacinus Wesmael, 1838. |

The West Palaearctic species of the genus Agathis Latreille, 1804 (Braconidae: Agathidinae) are revised and keyed. Forty-six species of Agathis are treated as valid, of which 29 occur in Europe; three species of the former Agathis mediator group (Bassus brevicaudus (Reinhard, 1867) comb. nov., B. mediator (Nees, 1814), and B. pumilus (Ratzeburg, 1844)) are transferred to the genus Bassus Nees, 1804. One new species (A. hemirufa) from Spain is described. The following species are synonymised: Agathis longicauda Kokujev, 1895, A. albanica Fischer, 1957, A. syriaca Fischer, 1957, A. caucasica Tobias, 1963, and A. taiwanensis Chou & Sharkey, 1989, with A. anglica Marshall, 1885; A. propinqua Kokujev, 1895, A. jakowlewi Kokujev, 1895, and A. anchisiades... |
