Performance of nymphs and adults of Piezodorus guildinii (Westwood) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) on soybean pods at different developmental stages BABT
Oliveira,Émerson D. M.; Panizzi,Antônio R..
A study was conducted in the laboratory to test the suitability of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] pods at different phenological stages of development (R3-R8) on the performance of nymphs and adults of the small green stink bug Piezodorus guildinii (Westwood) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae). Nymphs and adults showed better performance when fed on soybean pods during the pod-filling stage (R5-R6), compared to those fed on soybean pods at the remaining stages of development. When fed on soybean pods without seeds (R3-R4) no nymphs survived and no adults reproduced.

Population parameters and damage of Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Acari: Tarsonemidae) in Valencia orange (Citrus sinensis [L.] Osbeck) crop Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Rodríguez,Isaura Viviana; Mesa-Cobo,Nora Cristina; Valencia,Milton Orlando; Ossa,Julián.
Abstract Polyphagotarsonemus latus is one a major pest of Valencia orange in Colombia. To study its biology, it was established an experiment on young leaves of the Valencia orange at 25 ± 5°C, 70 ± 5% RH, and 12:12 L:D photoperiod. To characterize the nature of damage caused by this mite on leaves and young fruits, a trial in screenhouse conditions using young leaf and small fruits (0.1 - 0.3 cm in diameter) and fruits between 1.0-3.0 cm in diameter, which were infested with 5, 15 and 30 adult females of P. latus, was established. The total duration of life cycle was 3.2 days; the female had an oviposition period of 7.4 days and longevity 9.6 days. Life table parameters were as follows: net reproductive rate (R o ) = 93.3, intrinsic rate of natural...

Fransozo,Adilson; Bertini,Giovana.
The purpose of the present study is to examine the population structure and the breeding period of Pachycheles monilifer (Dana, 1852) inhabiting sabellariid worm reefs in the littoral of São Paulo State coast. The specimens were obtained at 2-month intervals from September/94 to July/95. The study sites were located at the rocky shores of Tenorio and Paranapuã Beaches. Individuals sampled showed a total averaged 4.4 ± 1.4 mm carapace length. Ovigerous females were more frequent in September. Despite clear differences regarding the arrangement of these sabellariid colonies, they are extremely important to the establishment and maintenance of P. monilifer.

Post-embriononic development of Chrysomya putoria(Diptera: Calliphoridae) on a diet containing ampicillin in different concentrations Anais da ABC (AABC)
FERRAZ,ADRIANA C.P.; DALLAVECCHIA,DANIELE L.; SILVA,DÉBORA C.; SILVA-FILHO,RENATO G.; AGUIAR,VALÉRIA M..
Here we evaluate the effects of different concentrations of the antibiotic ampicillin on the growth and development of Chrysomya putoria. Third-generation, first instar larvae (L1) reared on 60 grams of homogenate+agar 65% were treated with ampicillin sodium. The experiment consisted of four replicates (40 larvae/replicate) of each antibiotic concentration tested (T1: 466µg/mL ; T2: 81.33 mg/mL and T3: 166.66mg/mL) and a T4: control. The body mass of the mature larvae, after they abandoned the diet, were recorded in batches of five. The variation between the mean body mass of larvae and the duration of larval and pupal stages, and overall duration of the development, viability and normal rates were analyzed by ANOVA. There were no significant differences...

Relations biométriques chez l'araignée de mer Maja squinado : longueur de référence, distinction juvénile-adulte, taille-poids. ArchiMer
Le Foll, Didier; Latrouite, Daniel; Noel, Philippe.
For the analysis of spider crab populations it is necessary to split the size composition by sex and between age groups, and to convert length to weight. In some cases different length measurements need to be correlated in order to compare the results from different authors. Morphometricaly it is easy to use the abdominal flap to distinguish between male and female, and between immature and adult females, but for immature and adult males it is necessary to use Somertons method to analyse the relation between carapace length and claw width. The relation between carapace length and weight is normally established at moult stage 4, and it obtained separately for males, females, immature and adults spider crabs. When measuring carapace length the present length...

Resistance of citrus genotypes to Phyllocnitis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae) Neotropical Entomology
Santos,MS; Vendramim,JD; Lourenção,AL; Pitta,RM; Martins,ES.
The development and reproduction of the citrus leafminer (CLM), Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton, were evaluated in six citrus genotypes in order to identify genotypes with resistance traits that could be applied in a program for the development of citrus varieties resistant to the citrus leafminer. Tests were conducted under controlled laboratory conditions (25 ± 1ºC, 70 ± 10% RH, and 14h photophase). Seedlings of each genotype tested were infested with eggs obtained from a stock colony of CLM maintained on 'Cravo' lemon (Citrus limonia L. Osbeck), and the duration and survival of the eggs, larval and pupal stages, pupal size and weight, fecundity and longevity of adults, and sex ratio were evaluated. No influence was observed on the duration and survival...

Review of the biology, ecology and fisheries of Palinurus spp. species of European waters: Palinurus elephas (Fabricius, 1787) and Palinurus mauritanicus (Gruvel, 1911) ArchiMer
Gõni, R; Latrouite, Daniel.
Palinurus elephas and Palinurus mauritanicus are the only species of the family Palinuridae that occur in the Northeast Atlantic and Mediterranean. Of the two, Palinurus elephas is the most abundant and accessible and has traditionally been the preferred target of lobster fisheries throughout its range. Palinurus mauritanicus has a deeper distribution and has been an important target of fisheries mainly in the Central Eastern Atlantic. The high unit value and the relative scarcity of these species have been important obstacles to research and knowledge of their biology, ecology and fisheries is limited. Nevertheless, over time a considerable number of studies has been conducted, though most of these are contained in university theses or in publications of...
